Mississauga, ON – May 30, 2011 – RBC Insurance celebrated its 21st Anniversary of the RBC Insurance Charity Golf Classic on Wednesday May 25th, at RattleSnake Point Golf Club in Milton. Over 240 golfers attended the event, which raised $153,000 in support of the RBC Insurance Early Intervention Program at The Credit Valley Hospital.
The RBC Insurance Early Intervention Program, a child and family services mental health program, was designed to specifically help new Canadian families overcome challenges they face when accessing the education and healthcare systems.
“RBC Insurance is proud to partner with The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation and make a difference in the lives of newcomer families in the communities of Peel and Halton,” said Neil Skelding, president and CEO of RBC Insurance. “On behalf of RBC Insurance, I wish to extend a sincere thank you to our many sponsors and supporters for their kind donations towards this program.”
In collaboration with the Peel District School Board, The Credit Valley Hospital will work with schools in the community to help identify children from junior kindergarten to grade three who are high-risk for behavioural, emotional, social and developmental challenges. The program is currently being piloted in two schools within high-density newcomer communities in Mississauga.
Explained Dr. Louis Peltz, chief of psychiatry, The Credit Valley Hospital, “Thanks to RBC Insurance’s continued support, we are able to provide families in need with targeted education, treatment, guidance and support to help them understand and navigate the mental health system and ensure that the child’s health needs are met.”
The Jhansal family, currently benefiting from the services at The Credit Valley Hospital, attended the morning portion of the event and had the opportunity to meet professional golfers Alena Sharp and Nick Taylor, along with some of Canada’s top Olympic athletes - freestyle skier Jeff Bean, women’s ice hockey player Jennifer Botterill, ice sledge hockey player Greg Westlake and synchronized swimmer Valerie Hould-Marchand.
