Yuvvraaj Makes it to Oscar Library

197The library of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Science has asked Subhash Ghai for the screenplay of his latest film, Yuvvraaj, to add to their permanent core collection which is made for filmmakers, writers, actors and students all over world for their research work.

A screenplay is not selected on the basis of the film’s box office performance but only on its artistic merit and the fact that it is an original piece of work. Ghai is not the first to receive this honour from Bollywood. Other Hindi films whose screenplays have been stored at the library of the Academy are Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya, Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par, Amol Palekar’s Paheli, and Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, among many others. Responding to the selection, Ghai said, “Of course, the selection of Yuvvraaj came as a surprise to me. It is surely an honour, which no one can dare to deny…. Let’s say, it is my consolation prize for all the hard work that I have put in” he quipped. Yuvvraaj’s screenplay and story was a collaborative effort between Ghai, Kamlesh Pandey and Sachin Bhowmick. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Zayed Khan. The film’s music has been composed by AR Rahman and the lyrics have been written by Gulzar.
